A dx-pedition is a journey with radio. Some expeditions are performed by
individuals, while in others there may be 40-50 participants.
The purpose of these often expensive journeys to a distant country or a remote island is to give other radio amateurs a possibility of obtaining a contact with this country or island, something which the amateur may have tried for many years. In this way, the amateur is helped to obtain an award.
There are many ways in which to obtain these new countries and call-signs for the station log. Some get up at 0300 in the morning several weeks in a row. If you want to know more about this, click on lectures.
At the “hot” end (the fellow on the dx-pedition) there is
of course also an incentive: It is fun – the heartbeat quickens –
adrenaline pumps – how many did you log today?
